Weekend Blotter: Two Dead, 24 Wounded In Weekend Violence

- Two people were killed and 24 were wounded in gun violence over the weekend.
- A 24-year-old man was shot and killed around 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood just after he left church. The man's identity was not released, but a pastor said the man had sought counsel with him seeking to turn his life around after serving time in prison.
- A 27-year-old man was shot and killed around 4 a.m. Saturday in the Roseland neighborhood. Police say Shannon Ware was standing in a group on a sidewalk when a man across the street opened fire.
- A 2-year-old boy and his mother Leslie Freeman, 26, were shot and wounded when a car drove up and opened fire on them while they and other women and children sat in a van near a park in the West Englewood neighborhood. Both are in stable condition.
- Six people were shot and wounded in a drive-by outside a strip mall on Friday night in the Uptown neighborhood.
- Also, two women were shot and wounded around 1:45 p.m. Monday in the Roseland neighborhood.
- However, police say murders and shootings in the first six months of 2013 are actually down compared to the last two years.
