What with the bombs bursting in air and rockets red glare scheduled for Thursday, the idea of hearing another burst of a sort around the Fourth of July may not exactly be appealing. But "Burst," an elegant, beautifully simple stand-out on local orch-pop collective The Island of Misfit Toys new stripped-down, mostly acoustic Furiouser & Furiouser EP, should stand out as a exception to that instinct. "Burst" is a masterclass of how to execute a patient, building arrangement without dipping into the pompous or grandiose. It sounds like Mumford & Sons if Mumford & Sons toned it down for a goddamned minute and stopped making their music resemble an Irish Spring commercial.

The rest of Furiouser & Furiouser follows that template — patient, building, then cathartic — too, to excellent effect. Stream the whole EP below, then hop to Schubas on July 3 for The Island of Misfit Toys 18+ release show. Should be a good time.
