Food Trucks, Vertical Farming Meet At The Plant's Food Truck Rally
By Chuck Sudo in Food on Jul 8, 2013 8:50PM
Food trucks and vertical farming join forces when The Plant hosts its second annual food truck rally July 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Plant, the 93,500 square-foot vertical farm spearheaded by John Edel, is Chicago’s first vertical farm and an ongoing experiment with sustainability. Last year Edel broke ground on a renewable biogas system that will eventually divert 5,000 tons of organic waste from landfills annually to produce a methane-based biogas, which will then power a gas turbine to provide electricity to The Plant and its residents. Visitors will receive updates on this and other initiatives at The Plant, while enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the buildings farms, and treats from tenants Pleasant House Bakery, Peerless Bread and Jam, and Arize Kombucha.
Visitors will also be able to buy food from some of Chicago’s best food trucks including, as of post time, The Fat Shallot, Curried and Bridgeport Pasty Company.
Tickets ($5) are on currently on sale online. Admission on the day of the rally is $7.
The Plant is located at 1400 W. 46th Street.
