2013_07_onyx_system.jpg A few years back, we wrote about a dark-wave trio, Black Math, and their excellent sophomore effort, Phantom Power. That band unfortunately is no more, but a new duo, Onyx System, featuring Black Math member Jim Lace, has sprung up in its place. Listen to new music from Onyx System below.

Onyx System have been playing around town, with Lace and E.T. Habit guitarist Alex Nova gigging at the Burlington last month. Onyx System released an EP called Dreams Are Not Dreams, and it's full of experimental lo-fi new wave, with a little metronomic Krautrock thrown in for good measure.

Onyx System has another new EP in the works, and that's where "Sacrifice Channel," which you can download below, comes from. With a syncopated drum machine beat and Nova's guitar licks, Onyx System lay down a creepy, futuristic 80s vibe. Sounds like a good start to new work.

Download "Sacrifice Channel," then listen to a new demo, "New Spell," below.

If you're interested in catching two-thirds of Black Math, check out Spinning Clocks, a group who'll have a one-time performance at the Whistler July 17. Dig it.
