July is National Hot Dog Month and our friends at Gapers Block have a wonderful event planned for tomorrow, July 13 to celebrate.

The Gapers Block Hot Dog Cookoff from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Schubas pits chefs from Kuma's Corner, Fat Rice, Harmony Grill, The Haute and The Dog and ManBQue against each other to concoct their best hot dog dishes, made from pure beef Vienna Beef franks. They'll be judged by a panel of experts including culinary historian Bruce Kraig, Dining Chicago's David "The Food Dude" Lissner, and "Hot Doug" himself, Doug Sohn.

The $20 admission ($10 for children under 12) gets you tasting portions from all the participating restaurants. There will also be a raffle, cash bar and live music. Proceeds from this event will benefit Reach Out and Read Illinois, a nonprofit group that partners with doctors to prescribe books for children and families to encourage early childhood literacy.

Tickets are available online or at the door.
