Last Minute Plans: Speedy Ortiz Cranks It Up At Saki
By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 13, 2013 4:00PM
We couldn't be happier to see the gold soundz of the mid-'90s being mined more and more often, and Speedy Ortiz hits a thick vein of the stuff on their debut album Major Arcana. It's all guitars gone askew and blurring all over each other as the rhythm section slams and snaps into place behind them. And singer Sadie Dupuis delivers something between a Kim Gordon sneer and a Kim Deal sing-sons sans the smoke damaged vocal chords. Put it all together and you've got a think stew of multi-layered goodness that keeps feeding your desire to hear more, more, more. They're swinging through town today and keeping it indie with a record store performance at Saki this afternoon. Sample their video for "Tiger Tank" off their debut and if this is the sort of thing you dig—and we bet it just might be—we'll see you at the show.
Speedy Ortiz plays today, July 13, at Saki, 3716 W Fullerton, 5 p.m., FREE, all ages
