Chicago Dancing Festival is back for a seventh year, bringing a varied dance program including ballet, modern, ethnic and rhythmic to the public for free on Aug. 20-24. With performances at Harris Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Auditorium Theatre and a Grand Finale at Pritzker Pavilion, the festival features local and visiting companies like our own Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Giordano Dance Chicago, along with co-producer and native Chicagoan Lar Lubovitch’s Dance Company. This year the CDF even commissioned two premieres: Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman’s Episode 31 performed by The Joffrey Ballet and Lane Alexander’s and Bril Barrett’s In the beginning performed by Chicago Human Rhythm Project.
Every event is “free-to-all”, but tickets are needed for indoor events, and evidenced by years past, these passes “sell out” quickly. Tickets will be rolled out this week beginning tomorrow at noon for opening night at Harris Theater. These tickets will only be available in person at the Harris Theater Box Office (205 E. Randolph) or by calling 312-334-7777. Tickets for Auditorium Theatre’s Aug. 22 performance will be available at noon July 17 online, at the Box Office (50 E. Congress) or by calling 800-982-ARTS. And finally, get tickets for the Aug. 23 performance at the MCA July 18 at noon at the their Box Office (220 E. Chicago) or by calling 312-397-4010.
There’s a two ticket limit for each order, and any unclaimed tickets will be handed out to a stand-by group 15 minutes prior to curtain. For more details on the ticketing process and for the full performance schedule, check CDF’s website.
