Photos: Happy Birthday, Bertrand Goldberg

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Jul 17, 2013 9:57PM

Bertrand Goldberg, one of Chicago's greatest architects, was born on this date in 1913. Goldberg's two most popular accomplishments are Marina Towers, which stands among the most identifiable buildings downtown, and Historic Prentice Women's Hospital, which is in the process of being demolished.

But Goldberg's unique structural solutions to complex problems may also be observed, if not admired, at the River City condominium complex in the South Loop and the Hilliard Homes public housing complex where Motor Row and Chinatown touch. Here are some photos of Goldberg's buildings sans Prentice; we're saving that for when Northwestern University begins demolishing the exterior in the fall.
