- DMK Fans and barbeque fans, your two favorite things have come together in one place. Chef Michael Kornick and David Morton (DMK, Fish Bar, Ada Street) have opened a new restaurant - DMK County Barbeque. It's way too early for reviews, but the menu looks fantastic: St. Louis Spare Ribs, crispy pork shank with greens, veal brisket and an entire "bacon bar." Yup, you can order a single slice of maple-brushed, slow cooked smoke bacon for $2. A sampler platter of everything is only $18. We suspect Taylor Street is about to see some serious lines.
- La Creperie, the beloved Lakeview French restaurant that has been open for more than 40 years, is closing down next month. The owner, Germain Roignant, plans to return to his native Brittany and the current manager is moving to Los Angeles. Crain's reports that the restaurant will close at the end of August and that the building has been bought. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself was not bought along with it, so if you're looking for some savory crepes, go now.
- Baume and Brix has suffered its first major loss. Chef Ben Roche, formerly of Moto, has left over a financial dispute, Eater reported earlier this week. Roche claimed that the restaurant isn't paying its staff regularly, purveyors aren't being paid and equipment is breaking down, "typical red flags of a restaurant that was headed in the wrong direction." He will (thank goodness) continue making his fabulous gelato, available at J.P. Graziano in the west loop.
