Do This: Dinner Amongst The Crops At City Farm
By Anthony Todd in Food on Jul 23, 2013 3:00PM
City Farm is, hands down, one of the most beautiful places we know of in the city. Where else can you gaze at fields of crops while the Hancock Building and Trump Tower rise dramatically in the background? Normally, the public doesn't get much of a chance to actually roam around City Farm—you can buy produce from their farm stand, but that's about it. But if you want a chance to browse, support the farm and honor some amazing people, buy tickets to their "With Food at the Center" dinner on Saturday, July 27.
City Farm is a project of the Resource Center, a not-for-profit dedicated to innovative techniques for reusing and recycling materials. One of the Resource Center's other projects is called the Perishable Food Recovery Program, which travels all over the city finding food that would otherwise be discarded and making sure it gets to those who need it.
The dinner will honor seven individuals who have worked closely with the program to help those in need. Plus, guests will get to look around City Farm and enjoy a six course meal amongst the crops created by Fig Catering. We got a chance to attend one of Fig's events at City Farm back in late June, and it was one of the highlights of our summer. Long tables are set out in the center of the farm and the food is freshly prepared just steps away.
The menu is below. Tickets are $150, and the proceeds benefit the Resource Center. As if you needed more convincing, check out the photos from our visit in June—the plants will have changed, but the views will be just as wonderful.

Mustard Greens, Peach & Lentil Salad with housemade mustard
