Things are really popping off for Twin Peaks these days, and we couldn’t be more proud. These local scuzz-pop prodigies graduated from high school last year and had a short stint at university before ditching academia and heading back home to Chicago to take the music scene by storm. Along with countless basement shows and backyard barbeques across the city, they’ve also played a quaint little fest by the name of South By Southwest.

The group’s debut, Sunken, first took the form of a cassette that they recorded in a basement last year. Now that they’ve joined the Autumn Tone Records family, the album finally got the official release it deserves. We’re talking scrappy melodies and dreamy reverb haze coupled with charming pop hooks—the type of stuff that makes you feel young and reckless in all the best ways.

This weekend, the group is heading off on a pretty sizeable tour to spread word of Sunken that will last them through September. But first they’ll perform a hometown show at Schubas tonight—an official record release party and au revoir as before they hit the road. Also playing will be dream-pop act Sister Crystals and out favorite hopelessly romantic crooner Todays Hits.

If you can’t make the show tonight, don’t sweat it: Twin Peaks has a substantial break in their tour, when they’ll be taking the stage at Riot Fest sometime between September 13 and 15 (the exact day is still unknown) September 15 (the daily line-up was just released). And because these kids don’t know how to sit down and be quiet, they’ll certainly be getting loud and riling up the crowd at all their regular venues in their down time. For now, here’s a video for “Fast Eddie” off the band’s debut album:

Twin Peaks plays tonight, Wednesday, July 24 at Schubas, 3159 N Southport, 9 p.m., $10, 18+
