Crime Blotter: Father Shot Six Times While Shielding Toddler

  • One man was killed and at least 17 people were wounded in shootings citywide over the weekend. Sterling McKenzie, 27, was found shot to death in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood around 10 p.m. Sunday. [Sun-Times]

  • One man was killed and several people were wounded in shootings on Monday. A 30-year-old man was shot and killed Monday at 9 a.m. in the South Shore neighborhood. [Tribune]

  • Police shot and killed a man who they say was stabbing his estranged wife. [ABC7]

  • An 18-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded in the Garfield Park neighborhood around 12:20 p.m. Monday. [Tribune]

  • A 3-year-old girl and a 31-year-old man were shot and wounded around 4:56 p.m. Monday in the Marquette neighborhood. [Tribune]

  • A 29-year-old man was shot six times while shielding his 20-month-old daughter on Thursday in the Little Village neighborhood as part of initiation for a 14-year-old member of a rival gang. Esteban "Sniper" Sotelo, 19, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. The 14-year-old boy is charged with aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm. The father remains hospitalized. [Tribune, DNAinfo]
