Music Video(s) Of The Day: The Best Of The Monkees

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 6, 2013 10:40PM

We've been running a music video every weekday for almost a year now, and we probably couldn't have done it if Michael Nesmith hadn't used his Monkees skills to create PopClips, which eventually turned into MTV. I've written before that The Monkees were massively influential, although their talents are often marginalized by the band's manufactured boy band origins. Let's revisit some of their videos.

Since you apparently can't watch music videos on television anymore, we'll showcase one here daily. There's no rhyme or reason, time or season, to which video we'll choose. Have a suggestion? Contact us at tips@chicagoist.com.

Let's start with "Daydream Believer" to remind everyone that Axl Rose stole his sweet moves from Davy Jones.

"Mary Mary"

"I'm A Believer"

"Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)"

"Pleasant Valley Sunday"

This is a clip from the opening scene of the film Head, featuring the song "Porpoise Song."
