It is with a mixture of excitement and sadness that I announce today is Samantha Abernethy’s last day at Chicagoist. Since Sam returned to the fold in April 2011 her wit, attention to detail, nose for news both serious and sarcastic and solid writing have helped Chicagoist grow larger than even I dreamed when I took over as editor nearly three years ago.

I’ll admit it hasn’t been easy. We're both stubborn and even though my name is at the top of the staff page our working relationship has evolved into a solid partnership. Sam proved in her time as associate editor to be a wonderful confidant in shaping Chicagoist’s editorial direction, a necessary foil for spiking post ideas that otherwise may have been published, someone to laugh with during the high points of the workday and for one of us to serve as a sounding board when the other needed a boost in confidence. She’s been a straight shot of adrenaline to the heart at a time when we needed it and the entire staff will miss her. I only hope she’s learned as much from me as I did from her.

As for what the future has in store for Sam, she’s moving over to Organizing for Action to be site editor for Barackobama.com. By any metric, that is an upward move and we couldn't be more proud of her here. You're getting a keeper, Mr. President. Treat her well.

I fully expect Michelle Obama to teach her to Dougie and to see more galleries of Bo.

Don’t be a stranger, kiddo! Selamat tinggal.
