Allie, a 26-year-old bottlenose dolphin at Brookfield Zoo in labor (note the 3rd tail) as Tapeko, 31, looks on. Tapeko is scheduled to give birth later this fall.

The Brookfield Zoo's bottlenose dolphin Allie gave birth to a calf on Aug. 2, and it's a girl! The calf weighed about 40 pounds and measured about three feet long. This is Allie's third calf. The unnamed calf has already marked several milestones nursing and slipstreaming, a tactic of using her mother's hydronamic wake by swimming closely. Two other bottlenose dolphins are due to give birth this fall: Tapeko, 31, and Spree, 10. You can see Tapeko in a photo and in the video below.
