With Labor Day upon us, here are some notable events and performances coming up in Chicago's dance scene.

Dance Crash KTF
Chicago Dance Crash’s Keeper of the Floor championship lands at Mayne Stage tonight, Aug. 30. This time around the theme is “Old School University,” which means tunes from the late 80’s and early 90’s like Salt n Pepa, Vanilla Ice and Nirvana soundtrack the evening. The always outrageous Mattrick Swayze returns to emcee the competition as trickers, breakers and pirouetters battle it out for the title of Keeper of the Floor. 1328 W. Morse Ave. 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Deadline for Joffrey's Choreographers of Color Award
The deadline for aspiring minority choreographers to turn in applications for Joffrey Ballet’s Choreographers of Color Award is Monday, Sept. 2. Three winners receive a stipend and will work with Joffrey Academy Artistic Directors Alexi Kremnev and Anna Reznik to produce their pieces for the Academy Trainees. Now in it’s fourth year, this award program has featured some surprising and fresh new talent. The final showcase performance will be next spring. For more information, visit Joffrey’s website.

Beginning Sept. 5, free mini-classes for dancers of all ages and ability will be offered by the American Rhythm Center in celebration of a successful first year. It’s more than just tap classes at this Chicago Human Rhythm Project program, they’ll also offer jazz, flamenco, Indian, swing, Latin and more with the help of partner organizations at their home in the Fine Arts Building (410 S.
