Although Bridgeport Coffee Company and Jackalope Coffee & Tea both serve amazing coffee and teas, the two shops couldn’t be more different in personality. The older Bridgeport Coffee is like the successful businessman who has a routine from which he never veers, drives a Prius and only has a couple cocktails and some Netflix viewing to unwind after a long day.

Jackalope, on the other hand, is like a teenager who picks up your daughter for a date driving a customized Chevy S-10 blaring Scandinavian death metal from behind tinted windows for an evening of smoking cheap synthesized marijuana cruising Cicero Avenue. I like both shops but Jackalope is simply more to spend the day.

The shop’s attitude gets a nice boost from their food menu. There’s very little out of the ordinary here but what they serve is executed well and their sandwiches have some of the most metal names this side of the burgers at Kuma’s Corner. Their newest sandwich, The Creature from the Black Bean Lagoon, is a teeming nod to the non-meat eaters that walk among us.

This is a spinach wrap loaded with black bean burger, avocado spread, salsa, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. It is a filling sandwich that will carry you through the midday stomach grumbles with ease. At $5.75, The Creature is affordably priced, as well.

Jackalope Coffee & Tea is located at 755 W. 32nd St.
