We're wondering how many frenzied Blackhawks fans have circled Nov. 6 on their calendars. Not so much because the Hawks have a date with the Winnipeg Jets at the United Center that night, but because The Fratellis have announced they will be stopping at Metro for a performance during their upcoming U.S. tour.
If you live in Chicago and haven't heard the boisterous chorus of the band's "Chelsea Dagger" a thousand times by now, then it's time to come up for some air. The Blackhawks have adopted the song as their theme, and the tune blasts over the PA whenever a guy in an Indian-head sweater fires the proverbial biscuit into the basket.
Along with the 11-date U.S. tour—which coincidentally includes a stop in Boston—the trio from Glasgow, Scotland also announced an Oct. 8 release date of their new album We Need Medicine. Fans can pre-order the album now. The first single, "Seven Nights Seven Days," is available for streaming. It's an up-tempo bouncy number with rather desperate, if not downright depressing, lyrics in a Pogues sort of way.
All album pre-orders come with an instant download of “Seven Nights Seven Days” and different bundles include a signed CD booklet, the opportunity to exclusively purchase tickets to the tour ahead of the general on-saleĀ and the chance to win a meet 'n' greet with the band.
Although it's been showing up all over town this summer, there is no word yet if the Stanley Cup will make an appearance at the show. An email request for such information by Chicagoist to the Blackhawks public relations staff went unanswered. A publicist for The Fratellis, Damien Choy Smith, did respond, stating the band and the Hawks are trying to coordinate something, but "nothing's been set in stone as of yet."
However, if Daniel Carcillo was able to bring it to the Rush concert earlier this summer, the chances must be pretty high.
It probably will be tough for anyone who plays for the Blackhawks to make it to the show. They'd have to take a quick shower and cut the post-game press conference in order to catch the set after the tilt against the Jets. Although, it is conceivable. Surely the fellas in The Fratellis would be completely understanding if someone politely explained that the start of the set had to be pushed back because they had to share the stage with a fistful of toothless, Canadian high school drop-outs who want to show off their goofy hockey trophy.
