Three years can pass in a heartbeat when you live near one of the best beer bars in Chicago. It was in September 2010 when Ed Marszewski and his family took the dive bar they managed and transformed it into Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar. The only surprise in that span was seeing the Marzewskis dive head-first into the world of craft beer. Maria’s cocktails are among the tastiest in the city but it’s their selection of nearly 500 beers that has people flocking to 31st and Morgan in Bridgeport.
Last year Maria’s celebrated its second anniversary with a music, meat and booze-fueled extravaganza called “Bridgepork!” and they’re bringing it back for another go-round 2-8 p.m. Sept. 14. Maria's has planned a BBQ cookout featuring Art Jackson of next-door neighbor Pleasant House Bakery, Beverly Kim and John Clark, Won Kim and Drew from Flesh For Food and John Schultz of Mr Spanky's. The music lineup follows:
3:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Mike Bingaman
4:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Songs For Gods
5 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Axis: Sova
5:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Deep Sleep
6:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. Hunter Husar
Of course, Maria’s will have their full menu of beers, whiskeys and cocktails available.
Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar is located at 960 W. 31st St.
