According to a variety of news reports, at least eight people across the city were shot in Friday night violence, including two in Wicker Park.
Of those shot, two were killed, with one of the deceased having been shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer after attacking a security guard on the Near West Side.
DNAInfo Chicago reports that the Wicker Park shooting occurred about twenty-five minutes before midnight Friday at the fountain near the park at Schiller and Damen. Police say the shooting was reportedly gang-related.
Eyewitnesses told DNAInfo and Our Urban Times that two groups of four or five men each were fighting when shots rang out. Two men, one in his thirties, the other in his twenties, were shot, and then taken to Stroger Hospital and Masonic, respectively. Police are currently investigating the shooting.
Sadly, this is just another weekend in Chicago. The only thing that changes are the faces on the news.
