'Between Bites' Combines Eating And Storytelling

By Anthony Todd in Food on Sep 16, 2013 6:00PM

2013_9_16_BetweenBites.png The restaurant and bar community in Chicago is known for its charitable contributions. Between "No Kid Hungry," events for the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the support of hundreds of smaller non-profits, you could eat very well in Chicago just going from charity event to charity event. It's relatively easy for a chef or bartender to open their doors for an event or create a special dish, but sometimes we in the food media want to help out too! That's the idea behind the inaugural installment of Between Bites, a series intended to showcase "the delicious overlap between eating and storytelling."

Next Monday, Sept. 23, join six Chicago food writers at Two as we tell our stories of "food firsts." Each writer will read a story or essay, there will be wine and heavy appetizers, and all of the proceeds go to Un86'd, a charity that gives emergency cash grants to people in need in the restaurant industry. Full disclosure, I will be one of the featured writers. (That's even more of a reason to go, of course.)

The readers also include:

Ari Bendersky, Director of Content, Abe's Market (and former Eater Chicago editor)
Chandra Ram, Editor, Plate magazine
Heather Sperling, Chicago editor, Tasting Table Chicago
Joe Campagna, writer, Chicagofoodsnob.com
Kiki Luthringshausen, writer, beautyandherfeast.com

Tickets are $20. Buy them online now.

Two is at 1132 W. Grand Ave..
