Police Investigating Shooting Death At Suburban Gun Range

Police in suburban Lyons are investigating the death of a Michigan man on a gun range in the suburb.

Michael Babinski, 49, of Pickford, Mich., was found with a gunshot wound to the head at the range operated by Midwest Sporting Goods in the 8500 block of Plainfield Road shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Tribune said Babinski was shot once; CBS Chicago reports he was “shot multiple times in the neck and head.” Babinski was declared dead at Loyola University Hospital and the incident is being treated as an accident for now. If the CBS report is accurate that’s one hell an accident to be shot multiple times in the head and neck. Police interviewed witnesses and are reviewing video from the store.

The Tribune spoke with Frank Zahradnik, a Lyons resident and customer of the sporting goods store who said, “Things like this happen sometimes.” Zahradnik couldn’t recall the last time someone was accidentally shot on the gun range, however.
