Last-Minute Plans: Brent Weinbach At Beat Kitchen

While any weirdo at an open mic comedy night can mumble some half-formed one liners in a pained voice and position themselves as "postmodern" or "experimental," only true, professional weirdos, can thrive in nearly any live performance situation, remaining uncompromisingly strange in the face of even the most mainstream audience. Take the endearing eccentric Brent Weinbach, who sang a stone-faced rendition of "Ave Maria" with Doritos ingredients in place of the original Latin lyrics in front of the "woo!"-happy audience of the new-defunct Lopez Tonight.

Weinbach is a recipient of the Andy Kaufman award and, in addition to Lopez Tonight, has appeared on Conan, Comedy Central, HBO, and more, is in town for a one-off show tonight at the Beat Kitchen, in support of his delightful new comedy album Mostly Live. He'll be joined by two local standouts, Mike Lebovitz and Candy Lawrence, both of whom share Weinbach's eye for the absurd.

Brent Weinbach appears tonight, Monday Sept. 23, at the Beat Kitchen, 2100 W Belmont, 8:30 p.m. $10, 21+
