Autumn is synonymous with apple pies and we’re a few weeks away from one of the most popular events in Chicago celebrating the fall staple. The Ninth Annual Bucktown Apple Pie Contest goes down Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The event has packed the fieldhouse at Holstein Park in recent years with people looking to get their fill of pie and others vying for apple pie bragging rights. This year’s contest is capped at 168 entries and, as of post time, 110 spots are still open. Only double crust apple pies will be accepted and overall flavor and taste will make up half of the overall judges’ scores, so make sure you have plenty of trial and error before bringing your best pies to Holstein Park.

The complete list of rules and judging requirements, as well as registration, are found at the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest website. Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of Holstein Park.
