Every other week, the Reader asks bartenders to make cocktails with something disgusting, unlikely or crazy in their Cocktail Challenge series. Past challenges have included goat cheese, tartar sauce, chalk, lentils and PEZ candy. If you're anything like us, you read them, marvel, occasionally feel ill and then move on—you never try to actually make the cocktails yourself. Next week you'll have a chance to try some of these crazy concoctions for yourself at the Reader's Fall Cocktail Challenge.

We promise that the real drinks at the competition won't be disgusting—in fact, the bartenders will all be competing. Mixers from Sable, Barrelhouse Flat, Three Dots and a Dash, Hot Chocolate, Red Door, The Bristol, Lula and many, many more will compete to make their best cocktail inspired by the flavors of fall. You can taste all twenty (if you can handle it) for just $40.

The event is on Oct. 4 at State and Lake Tavern in the Wit hotel and the restaurant will be providing bites to accompany your booze. The fun kicks off at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m., and tickets are available online.
