A rarely seen opera, a beloved play complete with rhyming couplets and a gripping domestic drama — variety hits the stage this week.

The Water’s Edge
Theresa Rebeck’s tense family drama channels Greek tragedies with a plot full of scorned spouses, estrangement and devastating loss. The show runs through Saturday, Oct. 26.

Cyrano de Bergerac
Chicago Shakespeare Theater is taking on the much beloved play — penned in 1897 by Edmond Rostand — following the tales of a French soldier whose talents are matched only by the size of his nose. The show runs through Sunday, Nov. 10.

Joan of Arc
This weekend is your chance to check out one of the last performances of Chicago Opera Theater’s Joan of Arc. The rarely performed Verdi opera explores the fascination behind the infamous 15th century icon. The show plays Friday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 29.
