Check It Out: Andersonville Arts Weekend

The weather’s been downright agreeable lately, and we have a feeling that’s all going to change soon, so it’s a good time to get out and enjoy it. We suggest heading over to Clark and Berwyn for the 11th Annual Andersonville Arts Weekend Oct. 11-13 which is packed with events. You can take a self-guided art walk and see the work of local artists displayed in restaurants, businesses and galleries and catch live music sponsored by Potbelly Sandwich Works. Some things to check out are Daniel, Michael and Maureen Wynn’s stained glass at GreenSky, mixed media by Paul Munro at Marguerite Gardens, and Rob Patterson paintings at The Coffee Studio, but there are many, many more.
The Oct. 11 festivities kick off with the Night of 100 Parties, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. You’ll be able to find things happening wherever you look, from Unity Lutheran to Fireside. Local shops will have special discounts for the weekend, and the Swedish American Museum will have free admission, as well as a Swedish cafĂ©, trunk show, and special exhibits.
In addition, pH Comedy Theater will be putting on multiple shows. There's at least one each night. Tickets for these events are $10 ($5 for students), with an Arts Weekend brochure sometimes activating a 2-for-1 deal. Shows include “Bad Advice,” a three-act show based on audience suggestions, and "pHrenzy," in which audience members can vote off people they don’t find funny.
October 12 features a pub crawl starting and ending at The Call, with a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and a costume contest. Entry for the movie alone is $15, but the costume contest will cost $30 prior to the date and $35 the day of.
