Emanuel Gloats About Blackhawks, Chicago On Boston's Official City Website

Bostonians visiting their city’s official website are being greeted by an unwelcome visage this morning—Mayor Rahm Emanuel gloating over the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup Finals win over the Boston Bruins.

“Hello, Boston. You have no idea how glad I am to speak to you,” Emanuel smirks in the beginning of the two minute, 42-second video, part of the wager Emanuel and Boston Mayor Tom Menino had over the outcome of the Final. “I want to show you why Chicago is so incredible,” the mayor said. “And I cannot think of a better group of people to speak about the City of Chicago—the city that we call home—than the people of the City of Chicago themselves.”

What follows is a litany of people reflecting about the Hawks, the United Center and the final moments of the Game 6 clincher when they aren’t talking about Chicago in the same broad, vague platitudes Emanuel parroted during his 2011 election campaign. “Chicago! WHOOOOOOOOOHHH!!!

It’s like an extended “Superfans” sketch.

Among the other winnings Emanuel receives from Menino is a tree to be planted in a schoolyard of Emanuel’s choosing “to highlight our common commitment to education, parks and the environment.” Let’s hope the school Emanuel chooses isn’t closed by Chicago Public Schools in the immediate future.
