If you ever wanted to own your own bookstore, now is your chance to bid on a successful local staple. Beloved local bookstore Women & Children First posted an ad this week to sell their store according to Shelf Awareness. The ad states that the store is “debt-free” and goes on to rave about the wonderful staff and increased sales in the past two years. Owners Linda Bubon and Ann Christophersen are going to retire, but are willing to “work part-time to train and support new owners.”

The bookstore has been a longstanding member of not only the literary scene in Chicago but also an active member of the Andersonville neighborhood since 1979. We are glad to see that the owners are committed to not only finding the right buyer for the store, but to also help make the transition as smooth as possible. We would hate to see this wonderful resource decline, and given how long the store has been around it is no surprise the owners want to make sure they pass on their labor of love to the right person as well. We wish the best to Bubon and Christophersen with their retirement and look forward to the next chapter of Women & Children First.
