Nothing lasts forever, not even downtown restaurants that specialize in making simple, amazingly tasty sushi. Crain’s Chicago Business reports Ginza Sushi, long one of Chicagoist’s favorite sushi spots, will close its doors Oct. 26.

Ginza opened inside the Tokyo Hotel in 1987 and long catered to Japanese business travelers and tourists visiting the city for its impeccably fresh nigiri, maki, sushi rolls and ramen. The restaurant was also a bit of a secret for local food buffs and, as Ari Bendersky noted in his Crain’s article, earned a LTHForum Great Neighborhood Restaurant award in 2009.

Chicago Real Estate Daily reports the Tokyo Hotel has been sold to a consortium led by New York-based development firm Sydell Group Ltd. for $13.5 million. Plans are for the 16-story building involve transforming it into a Freehand Hostel which will house 250 beds, evenly split between dormitory-style rooms and private suites.
