2013_10_9_applepie.jpg Want to test out a new apple pie recipe before Thanksgiving or simply think you make the best version around? Bang Bang Pie Shop is hosting an apple pie baking contest later this month for anyone wanting to show off their apple pie baking chops. Tickets to enter the contest (or to taste the pies day of) are $5 and proceeds benefit Crop Logan Square. The only rules are the pies must contain apple only (no other fruits) and each entrant will need to submit two pies, one for the critics and one for the pie fans.

The pies will be put to the test on Oct. 27 with tasting portions for the public starting at 3 p.m. There will be an audience choice award and critics choice awards from a panel that includes Ina Pinkney, Jason Hammel from Lula Cafe, Tasting Table Chicago editor Heather Sperling and Megan Miller, the head baker and owner of Bang Bang. As if being able to taste copious amounts of apple pie isn't enough incentive, Gussied—a "band for lovers" that takes traditional wedding and party hits and gives them a bluegrass spin—will perform at the event.

Not a baker yourself and can’t make it out for a taste that day? Bang Bang is already taking orders for their Thanksgiving pies, including an apple crumble with Michigan apples. Whatever you decide, there are plenty of ways to get your apple fix this season at Bang Bang Pie Shop.
