Mercat a la Planxa is well known for its roast suckling pig, delicious garlic shrimp, paella and other Spanish specialities. It's less well known for Chef Cory Morris's talent for vegetable cookery, and that's a darn shame. Luckily, with Vegetarian Awareness Month (October) as a hook, they're trying to change all that.

For the month of October, Mercat will be running a special vegetarian prix fixe. For nine different dishes grouped into three courses the cost is only $55. That's a deal.

The menu includes dishes like an Heirloom Tomato Flatbread with Sofrito, Manchego and Basil, Flash Fried Padron Peppers with Salbitxada & Sea Salt and Wild Mushrooms with Confit Potato, Truffle, Shallot & Parsley. Best of all, the fun doesn't end in October, as Chef Morris is planning to create a similar vegetarian prix fixe every month. Time to add Mercat to our list of great vegetarian restaurants in Chicago.

Mercat a la Planxa is at 638 S Michigan Avenue.
