While the remainder of the 45,000 runner field in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is winding its collective way through the course, the elite runners have finished the race.
Dennis Kimetto of Kenya won the men's division and set a course record with a time of 2 hours, three minutes 45 seconds.
Kimetto and countryman Emannuel Mutai pushed each other throughout and fell short of the current world record of 2:03:03 set earlier this year by Wilson Kipang at the Berlin Marathon.
In the women's division, Rita Jeptoo, also of Kenya, took top honors with a time of 2:19:57. Septoo used a late push to separate herself from Jemima Jelagat Sumgong.
Tatyana McFadden won the women's wheelchair division with a time of 1:42:35.
McFadden became the first marathoner to win the London, Boston and Chicago marathons in a single year and will aim to win the New York Marathon later this month.
South African Ernst Van Dyk won the men's wheelchair division in 1:30:37.
