A member of the so-called “NATO 3” awaiting trial on terrorism charges related to last year’s NATO protests has been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly squirting a shampoo bottle filled with urine and feces at a Cook County correctional officer.
Jared Chase, 29, of Keene, N.H. was ordered held on $100,000 bail (although we don’t see why because he’s been in jail since the NATO summit ended in May 2012 on the terrorism charges.) Prosecutors contend Chase squirted the jail guard with the mixture Oct. 4.
Chase is accused along with Brian Church of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Brent Vincent Betterly of Oakland Park, Fla. with plotting to attack President Obama’s 2012 Chicago campaign headquarters and the home of Mayor Rahm Emanuel during the summit. The three were among eight arrested in a raid of a Bridgeport apartment and are being held in Cook County Jail on $1.5 million bond.
