Infomercial kingpin Kevin Trudeau may be headed back to jail if federal prosecutors have their way. Lawyers with the Federal Trade Commission asked a judge to toss Trudeau back in jail for failing to cooperate with a court-appointed receiver in solving the Gordian Knot of Trudeau’s finances.
Trudeau was found in contempt of court in July for paying next to nothing against a $37 million fine levied against him for making false claims in his infomercials for his book Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You To Know About. U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman had Trudeau jailed for a day and cut off his living expenses last month in an attempt to get him to open up about his finances. Trudeau has claimed for years he is unable to pay the fine because he’s broke, even though he still seems to live the type of lifestyle Donald Trump would consider classy.
The FTC’s attorneys are joined in the latest complaint against Trudeau receivers Robb Evans & Associates, who wrote in the filing, “Coercive sanctions appear to be the only remaining means of inducing Trudeau’s full disclosure.” The Sun-Times has details on the latest allegations of Trudeau’s miser-like spending:
- An overseas bookie’s account containing 73,000 Swiss francs
- An Australian bank account containing $141,000
- $100,000 worth of gold bars
- A new apartment in the Ukraine for his wife
- White-gold, diamond cuff links from Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe valued at $12,500
Trudeau said the cufflinks belonged to his wife and he’s done all he can to cooperate with the receiver. Trudeau faces a trial next month on criminal contempt charges based on his weight-loss book claims.
