Chicago Is Getting A Double Dose Of Dads

Admittedly, this writer initially passed Dads over as just another passing East Coast indie fad. Luckily, the buzz behind this New Brunswick duo kept growing and I gave them a real chance.

While their earlier recordings bring to mind the hop-scotch fretwork of Maps & Atlases, Dads' most recent EP Plenty Good suggests a slightly darker, more distressed tone. Whatever angle these two are going for, it's not bad and the emo world seems to agree.

Dads headlines the Beat Kitchen tonight with Drug Church. If your calendar is already full, the band announced last week that they'll be back in February with Reggie and the Full Effect at Subterranean. Reggie—the sometimes silly, sometimes angry project from The Get Up Kids veteran James Dewees—has been quiet in recent years but a griping performance at Riot Fest last month and a forthcoming album prove the band hasn't lost its appeal. In short, it should be a great show.

Tickets for Dads' headlining show at the Beat Kitchen are on sale now for $10. Tickets for their Subterranean show on February 12, 2014 go on sale Oct. 24.
