Chicago has about half a billion local bands (or so it seems) and there are positives and negative associated with that. We love that there's endless variety but the sad truth is that it's almost impossible to keep up with all of them. While some acts inevitably fall into obscurity, Fort Frances strive to crack the code for staying on fans' radars by always staying active.

Whether it's releasing a digital single covering Sufjan Stevens or donating a portion of concert tickets sales to Cure Violence—all of which the band has done in advance of their show at Lincoln Hall this Sunday—these poppy, folky rockers are always doing something new to spark conversations about the band.

Vocalist/guitarist David McMillin admitted to Chicagoist in an email that a "digital 7-inch" is proof the band is always looking to release new music in any form possible. So, this new release, titled Breathing Room, is a way to keep Fort Frances on the musical map until their new LP is completed next spring.

Stream Breathing Room or purchase it for the (very) reasonable price of $1.99 here. Catch Fort Frances on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Lincoln Hall. Tickets are $12 in advance.
