We like the phrase “and wine” and the vino is a key part of the Chicago Sinfonietta’s Nov. 11th performance at Symphony Hall. The group will play a concert inspired by Dia de Los Muertos, a holiday for which we’ve already expressed our love.

Sinfonietta is pairing up with DiseƱo Wines to present a program of music and accompanying wine. The wines are to be selected based on their relation to the music being played, putting a literal spin on the phrase “drinking in the music.” The tasting is included in the ticket price, and featured wines include Malbec, Tempranillo Garnacha and Prosecco.

Another collaboration for Sinfonietta that evening is with Redmoon, who will provide the backdrop for the music. Redmoon sets the mood for both halves of the concert through two dramatic lighting concepts: one meant to echo the mournful and somber European approach to death; and the other playing more to the celebratory, colorful celebration of the deceased’s life.

The DePaul University Singers will make an appearance as well. They'll sing selections from Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor that will send a chill down your spine. Violin virtuoso Ade Williams also plays, a fact that makes this a great alternative to the standard Monday night doldrums.

Tickets range from $15-54 for the performance at Symphony Center. They are available here.
