President Obama honored the Blackhawks at the White House this afternoon, calling the team "a great example of what Chicago is all about."
“Since I took office we’ve hosted a lot of championship teams, from Boston, New York, Pittsburgh and Miami, but since I’ve been president only one team has brought a world championship to my hometown of Chicago and now the Blackhawks have done it twice,” Obama said with a big smile.
Prior to their White House fete the Blackhawks visited Walter Reed Medical Center to speak with injured soldiers being treated in the hospital. Obama ran down the accomplishments of the 2013 Stanley Cup champions and poked some fun at goalie Corey Crawford's drunken, f-bomb fueled speech during the Hawks parade and celebration in the process:
We were originally going to let Corey Crawford say a few words...but we need to keep this event family friendly. You guys have been hanging out with Rahm Emanuel too much.
