Even if you have the worst case of the Mondays, your work week probably started on a higher note than WGN Radio host Steve Dale. The animal behavior consultant hosts “Steve Dale’s Pet World” Sunday mornings, but his format was switched up a bit yesterday when he was trapped in his apartment elevator and decided to broadcast live from the confines of his temporary basement prison.

As DNAinfo reports, Dale stated that the elevator went to the basement of his building, opened three inches and then trapped Dale inside. Once Dale realized he wouldn’t make it to the studio his producer agreed to air the show live with Dale broadcasting from his cellphone. Full cell phone service in an elevator in the basement of a building? More than anything we’re shocked that his phone worked and want a hookup with his cell phone provider.

We’re not surprised that Dale felt the strong desire to broadcast his show, since he flew back to Chicago from a conference in New York to make it Sunday morning. No one wants to waste a day of flying in vain. It was a team effort as well, with his wife Robin printing out on-air commercials and slipping them through the crack in the elevator door to read, an odd twist on the duties provided when you proclaim for better or for worse. Also Dale just seems like a pretty stand up guy, who stated that “I’ve never missed a shift” and pointed out that besides being able to tell he was on the phone, it was still a “pretty normal show.”

So just remember as you hit the afternoon slump and your eyes start to cross while staring at Microsoft Excel, at least you aren’t stuck in an elevator.
