Michelin Releases 2014 Bib Gourmand Winners

Leading up to the release of their official 2014 guide and star ratings next week, Michelin unveiled their list of Bib Gourmands today. The Bib Gourmands are marketed towards diners looking for a more affordable but quality option, with Michelin using the parameters of that being two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less, not including tax or tip. Although we are skeptical if a person exists that goes to Girl & The Goat and only spends $40. This is possible, but not plausible with many of the restaurants on this list.

The list this year increased from 64 restaurants to 69 and includes 18 new businesses. Crain’s reports that four restaurants on the 2013 list are now closed and that 13 have lost their Bib Gourmands status. That said, some of the businesses that lost Bib Gourmands status could possibly be gaining star status next week. We’ll have to wait and see. Personally we’re really hoping that is the case with the Bristol.

As far as standouts on the list go, we are delighted to see the addition of Fat Rice, another nod to Bill Kim with the addition of bellyQ and we are thrilled to see Lula Cafe returning after falling off the list last year. Congratulations to everyone and now we wait for the full Michelin announcements to come next week.
