The Bears once-vaunted, injury-plagued defense received more bad news this morning. Cornerback Charles "Peanut" Tillman will miss the remainder of the regular season with a triceps injury. WSCR-AM's Zach Zaidman reports Tillman was placed on the injured reserved list under the new designated-to-return tag, meaning he has to be out at least eight weeks.

Tillman, arguably the best cornerback in Bears history, was a Pro Bowler last year but was playing far below his standards this season and was constantly burned by Lion receiver Calvin Johnson in the Bears' 21-19 loss to Detroit. The Bears "D" is already missing Lance Briggs with a shoulder fracture, can't get a pass rush going and is unable to defend the run. Tillman normally covers the opposing team's best receiver and is an expert at causing turnovers.

Tillman could return in time for the playoffs should the Bears qualify for postseason play.
