Sad information surfacing in local venue news today. Chicagoist just found out that tonight will be the last night to visit Ultra Lounge, the rock and metal bar that has seen an upswing in popularity in shows the past few years. We found out through a source that according to them, the owner decided to not renew his license in order to focus on a bar he opened in the suburbs.

We're sad to see it go and hopefully someone will pick up where Ultra Lounge is dropping off and maintain the space. The bar/lounge has had some trouble in the past, but with the addition of a lovely patio, catering to niche local scenes and a few stellar Lollapalooza aftershows this year Ultra Lounge had seemed to blossom. We had a wonderful time seeing The Thermals there during Lollapalooza and throwing back some Sailor Jerry specials on the patio during the summer. It was a nice addition to the somewhat sparse drag of Milwaukee Avenue it sits upon.

We'll update with more information as it comes along.

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: We have further confirmed with management that the bar/venue is for sure closing after tonight. We're sad to see it go, especially after such a long run.

So far, one of the current upcoming shows has been rescheduled by mP Productions for another venue. The December 7 show for Occulation has been moved to Live Wire Lounge, located at 3394 N Milwaukee Ave.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: We just were contacted by the organizers of Disco Sinistro, who had a dance party scheduled tomorrow night at Ultra Lounge. They found out late yesterday of the closing, but were able to locate a new venue in time. Disco Sinistro will be Saturday from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at Junior's in Pilsen, located at 2058 W Cermak Rd.
