Here's a cool find from archive.org: a copy of the 1882 book Picturesque Chicago covering Chicago's history up to and including the Great Chicago Fire.

The book was published by Chicago Engraving Company and the highlights are the detailed artists renderings of a city in the midst of a major population boom. Images such as the Humboldt Park lagoon and the lake at Garfield Park give the reader an idea of what Chicago looked like as the 19th century gave way to the 20th.

We've also embedded the book in the post for your reading pleasure.
