Photos: Ice Skating At McKinley Park

We wrote Friday that Chicago Park District's outdoor skating rinks are now open through Feb. 23. I love ice skating although I'm admittedly not very good at it—I consider it a personal victory simply being able to stand on my skates without cracking my head on the ice.
The downright balmy temperatures around Chicago this weekend didn't stop me or scores of others from lacing blades and taking to the ice. Here are some photos from McKinley Park's ice rink, located at the northwest corner of Western and Archer Avenue. The rink is ideally situated next to Western (which becomes a boulevard at McKinley Park) and offers plenty of sights to watch as you work around the rink. There's McKinley Park itself, one of the Park District's larger and more beautiful parks. The CTA Orange Line and freight train lines parallel Western before curving along Archer. On a clear day you can see the downtown skyline in all its glory to the north.
After a good free skate you can grab a bowl of Lindy's Chili (one of our 13 best comfort foods) to warm yourself up.
