The Bulls lost their first home game of the season in what amounted to a battle of wills with the Pelicans in a game that ended long after many of us were asleep. Coach Tom Thibodeau leaned heavy on Luol Deng, Joakim Noah and Kirk Hinrich. Deng scored 37 points and logged over 55 minutes of playing time. Noah scored 19 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and played 50 minutes. Hinrich played 53 minutes, scored 13 points and dished out 11 assists. The Bulls' rotation was effectively seven players deep with Taj Gibson and Mike Dunleavy each logging over 44 minutes of playing time. Curiously absent in the late stages of the game was Carlos Boozer.

Ryan Anderson led six Pelicans in double figures with a career-high 36 points and Jrue Holiday (19 points, 12 assists) scored the game winner. Eric Gordon added 23 points for the Pelicans.
