Mako Sica plays the Empty Bottle this Sunday for the Intuit benefit show.

Chicago’s experimental music community doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. The quirky bunch of noise makers seems to be drawn to intimate galleries and damp basements rather than commercial venues. It’s safe to say they tend to embrace their odd-one-out status.

The same goes for Intuit, a local nonprofit that supports and showcases self-taught and outsider artwork. This Sunday the Empty Bottle will host an event that combines both worlds: a fundraising show for Intuit featuring some of our favorite experimental acts.

The fundraiser, which is presented by the kids over at Windy City Rock, has a pretty solid lineup of local bands. Taking the stage will be jazz-psych trio Mako Sica, acid-folk artist The Humminbird and psychedelic improvisers Crown Larks as well as a performance by DJPTSD, which is comprised of members of ONO. All proceeds from the event go directly to Intuit.

The Intuit Benefit Show is Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 7 p.m., $8, 21+
