The Onion's Final Front Page

The Onion has been a Midwestern gem that kept us laughing years before they took over the rest of the world and dominated as the news source most likely to confuse your Facebook friends and moms. So it was bittersweet when they announced last month that The Onion would fold the print publication aspect of their business. We're sad we won't be able to grab a paper for our morning commute chuckle but we're glad they are focusing their business on their web-based content and furthering their scope. As long as The Onion is around dishing out the best commentary on the usually depressing state of modern news, we'll be okay.

We raise a glass to them on going out this week in such a classy and Onion-esque style. Their subtle yet braggart sense of humor shines through as they pat their own back for putting Google on the map. The complimentary one-year subscription is a nice touch. And as a book vs. e-reader fan we enjoy a nice laugh at their headline "Nation Just Prefers Feel Of Newspapers In Hands." The world of print is moving (kicking or screaming) more into the digital realm, but we'll always have a soft spot for ink on paper.

Long live print, folks.
