Their/They're/There's Live Show Is Every Bit As Good As The Band's Grammar Skills

Chicago-based Their/ They're/There has been causing quite a stir on the Internet since the release of their debut EP Analog Weekend. Despite the fact that the band—bassist Even Weiss of Into It. Over It.; drummer Mike Kinsella of Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owen; and guitarist Matthew Frank of Loose Lips Sink Ships—has gotten dragged into the questionable "emo revival" discussion in recent months, we argue that T/T/T has much more of a math rock feel than emo, however you define it these days.

That feeling swelled after finally having a chance to see the band live. Really though, when the music is as good as it is with Their/They're/There's, we don't see the point in nitpicking over genre.

Chicagoist caught the trio at Schubas Sunday night and it was everything we expected and hoped for. Frank's guitar skills and effortless execution of T/T/T's complex melodies made us green with envy. Weiss' always amiable personality charmed the pants off us (not literally). And Kinsella managed to bring the guitar and bass lines together even when they seemed to be spiraling in completely opposite directions.

With just a few songs out under their name, Their/They're/There has plenty of room to continue to impress fans. We love the band's off-the-wall songwriting style but judging by their covers of the Lemondheads and Superchunk, we wouldn't mind their version of melodic, more traditional rock songs either.
