Kanye West made an emphatic claim that he can still be called a Chicagoan this week between his United Center concert/spectacle, his “Yeezus” tour pop-up shop and now an interview he did with WGCI’s “Morning Riot” crew where he sounded less arrogant than he has in recent memory.
The Louis Vuitton Don talked about his continuing efforts to be a fashion mogul, his wish to be a billionaire by his mid-40s and the controversy over his radio interviews earlier this month where West seemed caught off-guard with some of the questions. West admits to Tony Sculfield and Leon Rogers his inroads into the fashion world haven’t been the smoothest to pave and that it’s an ongoing learning process. This is the kind of earnestness and honesty that endears West to his fan base and can even warm his detractors to him.
There were, however, a couple of “Kanye being Kanye” moments such as when Rogers asked West if his fans would be slaves to him if his nascent fashion empire became as huge as the most recognized fashion brands. “I wouldn’t mind,” West replied.
Then there was this matter-of-fact statement about his daughter North.
"My baby wouldn't look as good if it wasn't with Kim Kardashian."
He can drop the mic there.
